Building faith and godly influence
Romans 10:17 says, "So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" (NKJ). To build our faith, we must keep hearing God's word. Not just Sunday's sermon or the midweek Bible study, but every day. This is especially so in a world where God's will is not always the popular option and not everyone is subject to His word. Hence, ungodliness can become a strong and popular influence - from the news, social media, friends, loved ones and strangers, negative thoughts and even self-doubt.
As God's people, we therefore need to take conscious and proactive action to remain under God's influence every day. One way to achieve this is a daily habit of hearing from God through His word. We know that God's word contains His power and His influence. By meditating on it every day and walking in its guidance, we set God's power and influence to work in our lives. Here are some scripture verses about God's guidance and influence through His word:
"I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you"
Psalm 119:11 (NIV)
"Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path."
Psalm 119:105 (NKJV)
"Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers." Psalm 1:1-3 (NIV)
" The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple."
Psalm 119: 130 (NKJV)
" He sent His word and healed them, And delivered them from their destructions."
Psalm 107:20 (NKJV)
" Every Scripture passage is inspired by God. All of them are useful for teaching, pointing out errors, correcting people, and training them for a life that has God's approval."
2 Timothy 3:16 (GWT)
The power of the tongue
We know that whatever we give attention to influences our lives. This is how a daily habit of thinking on God's word maintains a godly influence. And by speaking God's word over our lives, we strengthen our faith too. Through faith-filled words, God spoke and the worlds were formed (Genesis 1:3-30). He has given us that same power to speak things into existence.
"Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love its use will eat its fruit."
Proverbs 18:21 (NETB)
“Truly I tell you that if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and has no doubt in his heart but believes that it will happen, it will be done for him."
Mark 11:23 (BSB)
" So also will be the word that I speak--it will not fail to do what I plan for it; it will do everything I send it to do."
Isaiah 55:11 (GNT)
Start your day speaking words of life
This Word for the Day resource makes it easy to speak God's word over our lives every day. It is by no means the whole of God's word but a selection of empowering words to start the day. This first issue has 35 scripture verses personalised as a prayer or a meditation, just for you! It comes as a free 4-page pdf downloadable. Each page is A4 sized. You can download and print it out, carry it around on your device or have both. Then, read it out in faith as part of your daily prayer time or read it on the go! It is not the typical daily devotional resource, as you will notice. However, as 'devotional' is defined in the dictionary as a religious worship or observance, it certainly does qualify. I have not included any insights along with the scriptures so that you are solely receiving insights from God as you speak the words over your life. Be sure to pause and listen to God's Spirit as you go.
How it all started
Many years ago, I found something just like this, for expecting mothers, in a Christian bookshop. I was a first-time mother and found it very uplifting, being able to pray through the verses all through my pregnancy. From then onwards, I began to compile lists of scriptures relevant to different situations in my life. I wrote them out by hand, carried them around and made sure to pray through or meditate on them at least once a day. I found that it boosted my faith, helped me stay strong and resilient through trials and it helped me stay in God's will as I was effectively praying God's will every day.
This version you see here began as a handwritten A4 sheet. It became so very raggedy from years of use that you can barely see the words now! So, I decided to type it out and laminate it for better durability. And then, I decided to share it with my children. But next, I felt led to share it with whomsoever would, so that others could have a faith boost on the go as well. And this all led to the birth of Word On The Go Outreach. I take a digital copy along with me and pray through it on my commute to work. I also have a hard copy by my bed and pray through it at bedtime. To obtain your own copy, simply click on the image at the top of the page and your download will begin. Do write back and let me know how you are using your copy.
God bless you! 🤎
